Lucille Atlookan: Aakoozi – He/or She is Sick
Atlookan, who received a kidney transplant, has created a series of visual works exploring their experiences of sickness, chronicity, and the temporalities of waiting. This work draws on their cultural modes of artistic creation, including beading and work with skins, to simultaneously reflect on coloniality in medicine.

Fraser Allan Best is a Toronto filmmaker. His intimate first-person documentary, Thanks for the Liver, draws on his own life chronicling his journey through a life-saving liver transplant. Filmed over two years and woven from more than 500 hours of candid personal video, the film explores pain, humour, and resilience in the face of uncertainty.
Dominic Quagliozzi: Transformations (The Butterflies)
Transformations was a pop-up art exhibit held in the Family Lounge of UHN’s Ajmera Transplant Centre at Toronto General Hospital in November 2023. Through the exhibit, Quagliozzi, a double-lung transplant recipient, explored the emotional and psychosocial complexities of transplantation through butterfly sculptures made from hospital gowns, scrubs, linens, and blankets. Following the UHN showcase, the exhibit travelled to Montreal for The Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program’s annual scientific meeting in December 2023.
